Profile of Nadine Pickworth – Smart Accounts Ltd

Nadine Pickworth has recently become a member of Mum’s the Boss.  She runs her own accountancy business Smart Accounts Ltd. based in Northamptonshire.

Tell us a little bit about you and the business that you run.

We are based in Northamptonshire and provide a variety of accountancy services including financial accounting, reporting and analysis, cash flow forecasting, budgeting and planning advice, company secretarial, company formation and taxation services.  The aim is to provide value for money and flexibility whilst delivering a quality service, tailored to each client’s specific needs.

What inspired you to start your own business?

After years of trying to juggle work and family life, I finally decided to start my own accountancy business and to use over 20 years’ worth of accounting experience in a variety of industries to help small and medium businesses to maximise their business potential.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Having the confidence to pursue new clients.  Which is why I decided to join MTB as reading other members’ profiles made me realise I wasn’t alone.

What have you learnt about yourself since you became self employed?

That I enjoy being in control of my own destiny and have the flexibility to fit work around family life.

What has been the best thing about being your own boss?

An end to the anxiety of coping with school holidays.

If you could give one piece of advice to an aspiring mumpreneur what would it be?

Go for it – you only live once!

There are so many things we should know to start our own business but I think Major companies get the benefit of hard workers. Right now some of them are asking their employees to take a pay cut and work longer hours. People are willing to do this because of the troubled economy.
