Here’s the latest instalment of my series profiling mums who are running a home business.  Today, I’m talking to Shari Sant, who works as a virtual assistant with her business RedRite.

Tell me a bit about RedRite
.
My business is a virtual administration company providing outsourced support for business owners who like to gain back a bit of time. Whether its sending follow up emails on their behalf, planning and scheduling their social media or even just keeping track of payments. Any aspect of a business that an owner wishes to outsource I am more than likely able to help. I have been working just short of 5 years and helped clients from UK, Malaysia and the USA.

What inspired you to start your own business?
 .
My business was born from the deserve to provide for my kids and do it while working around both their routines and my medical conditions. My history is in admin and when I discovered freelance sites that allows me to use previously obtained skills I know I had hit on the winning business idea. Hence the birth of RedRite, a virtual administration business where I help businesses with all those tasks they dislike or are just running out of time to do. I can now make a living, be there for my kids and help people throughout the world build their business – proving to my kids that working hard pays.
 .
What has been your biggest challenge?
 .
The biggest challenge I have faced is having confidence in myself. I knew the skills I had and knew I could help other people but actually putting myself out there and telling people this was a whole different story. I had to take a few risks and attended several conferences, talking to complete strangers before I felt comfortable within myself. I know run 3 networking groups myself and give the occasional talks.
What have you learnt about yourself since you became self employed?
 .
The biggest thing I have learnt about myself is that I am capable of far more than ever believed. I have grown within myself and also realised that although I knew a lot to begin with I am forever learning and expanding my knowledge. The whole ‘you learn something new every day’ phrase is very apt.
What is the best thing about being your own boss?
 .
I love the fact I can be there for my kids, by picking my own hours I can work around my kids schedules, see all their plays and be there when they are sick without worrying about losing out on an income. It also allows my kids to appreciate the benefits of working and understand that money does not grow on trees 🙂

What jobs within your business would you love to delegate to somebody else if you could?
 .
I would love to delegate face to face meetings as that is where my confidence is still lacking, I love my job and every aspect of running my business but running meetings are my worst part.
.
If you could give one piece of advice to an aspiring ‘mumpreneur’ what would it be?
Take your time and enjoy the journey! no one says you have to make it a success in the first year or even the first 5 years, the more you enjoy the journey the more your passion will burn for your business and motivate you to keep it going.
