Who is your Ideal School Governor – Tell us and win a Kindle Fire

Education charity ‘SGOSS – Governors for Schools’ has launched a new campaign which highlights the personal benefits of volunteering in a quest to help fill 30,000 school governor vacancies across England.

School governors are the largest group of volunteers in education. They support and challenge the Head Teacher, set the strategic direction for the school and monitor and evaluate progress. As members of the school’s governing body, governors have the opportunity to significantly develop their skills and competencies.

To find out more information about the campaign, or to volunteer as a school governor visit http://www.becomeagovernor.com/.

SGOSS have also launched a new short for the campaign, “We’re the people…” which follows four volunteers in their workplace and shows how they use their skills to support children, education and schools.

  1. I’m voting for Sir Alex Ferguson, he wouldn’t accept poor performance!

  2. Any parent who’s really dedicated and cares a lot, as thats what matters more than anything else. I actually think there needs to be more “normal” kind of people as school governors, and a bit more diversity. I was one where we lived previously and the first time I went into the meeting I straight away noticed how everyone else were all quite ‘posh’ and all seemed to be about twice my age.
Campaign like this is a good idea
