A couple of weeks ago I posted about the new look Mums the Boss and how things were going to change a bit round here. I know from what I have sen on Facebook that a couple of people have been put out by this and I am genuinely sorry to see you go, but at the end of the day I need an outlet for my personal blogging.

So some of you may have noticed that I took a little break (or maybe you didn’t at all and haven’t even missed me…) and those of you who have been here before will notice that this site has had a total makeover. I have spent a few weeks since Christmas re-evaluating everything that I do online, and now I have a new look and feel here, and I hope a better way of working.
Happy New Year to you all. I hope you have all had a happy, healthy and peaceful Christmas and are looking forward to 2013 with excitement and wonder. I certainly am, because for the first time since I gave up full time work ten years ago, I now have a business plan that seems to finally make sense, and I can’t wait to get going on it.
In a previous life (ie. before I got married and had the children), I was an accountant, and worked in the Corporate Finance department of a UK Plc. The company was going through an aggressive expansion, and I got to see first hand how mergers, and takeovers are done in the corporate world.
The job was not really me, and I was quite glad when I left it and walked away from the corporate world. But now I come to think of it, it is amazing what I learned, which I am now using to great effect in the way I do business.
Mum’s The Boss has been many things to many people over the years – but one consistent theme and founding pillar has always been cake! So it seemed only right and proper that when it came time to pass MTB on to its new owner that we should meet up and do the deal over tea and cake.
The date was last Tuesday – 11th September 2012. This was a very significant date – as it was also the 4 year anniversary of the first ever Mum’s The Boss meeting. A happy co-incidence? Maybe, but we also had a very significant phone call with Debbie about the sale of Mum’s The Boss on July 17 th – which was also the date 4 years earlier that Sam + I met – with 4 other ladies – in a coffee shop in Bedford to discuss whether we should go head and arrange something.
In business your name is one the very first ‘first impressions’ that people see or hear. The name of a business can explain what you do, or it might be something which needs an explanation. It may be something which immediately puts you off or draws you in when you first see it – the same can be said about a logo or a web home page – it is something which makes a connection – or not. Unlike your own name which your parents decide on, your business is something which you get to name.
