Is that a monkey on your back? - Mum's the Boss

As a kid I would sing along with George Michael when he sang Monkey.   I had no idea what the lyrics meant or his definition of Monkey, but I loved the sound and the beat, and George Michael.  Hey I was in my teens and that was important wasn’t it?

My definition of Monkey isn’t the same.  It is anything that is stopping us from:

  • moving forward
  • thinking clearly
  • reaching our goals
  • being authentic

What’s stopping you from starting the business you have always dreamt of?

Are you stuck and lacking clarity?

So many people are living their life according to the opinions of others.   Do the ‘others’ have the life they desire, are they living your life?  Are they living their dreams, or have they settled for mediocre?

When I first started my business, people told me that it wouldn’t work or they told me their experiences or stories they had heard.  I also had those who would zone out after they asked me what I was doing.    That just made me even more determined to make it work.

You are the only one walking in your shoes.   Take a moment to really look at the people that are telling you that you can’t do it, or that it won’t work; do you want to live their lives?

“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with”, Jim Rohn

In this day and age that doesn’t have to mean that you are physically with them, technology has opened up the world.  Surround yourself with people who are successful in their chosen fields, people you aspire to be, positive and like-minded people.  Stay away from energy vampires at all costs!

A great way to get and stay on track is to work with a mentor or coach.  If you aren’t in the position to work directly with a mentor or coach, have a look online and watch what others are doing.  Facebook pages like Business Mum Bloggers is a great way to start.
