Black Friday – that wonderful new day in the shopping calendar when retailers have decided that we all need to spend lots of money and do all our Christmas shopping.
I can’t believe it’s only 7 years ago that I went on my trip to New York and discovered about Black Friday shopping for the very first time. It wasn’t even a thing in the UK back in 2011. Now you would think it has always been there, a grand old tradition, and every year the deals get better and better.
Of course in the UK Black Friday doesn’t really make sense.
In America, where Black Friday came from, the big celebration of Thanksgiving always takes place on a Thursday in November, and many people book that Friday off work, to make a long weekend. So it makes perfect sense for retailers to dangle as many carrots as possible to entice the hungover holiday revellers into their shops or onto the internet. It’s like Boxing Day on steroids…
But in the UK, the
So how do you plan your strategy to make sure that you get the best of the Black Friday bargains? After all most of them are only up on the websites for 24 hours maximum? So, do you stay up till midnight on Thursday and go on a big shopping binge before bed? Do you get up at the crack of dawn and do a couple of hours of sneaky shopping before work? Or (don’t admit to this) do you sneakily shop on your phone while you are at work?
- Make a list of what you want before you start. If you are a parent you probably already know what your children want for Christmas, and maybe you have some idea of what to buy for all the rest of the relatives. But do make sure, that your significant other, your parents and anyone else who matters, have a very clear list (with links) of what you would like for Christmas too. Most men would be only too happy to be told exactly what to buy and on what date – and if they can save money on it then so much the better.
- Save details of the deals you find. Keep all the deals emails in one folder, or pin images of them to your project Pinterest board or Trello board. If you are feeling nerdy then make a spreadsheet of all the things you plan to buy with a list of the items, the links to the sale pages and details of the money you will save.
- Make sure your bank account/credit card can handle it Check your balances, credit limits and similar. Make sure that you will have easy access to all of the money that you plan to spend. If you have cards that give you bonus points for shopping with certain retailers, then make sure you know clearly which card to spend with which retailer. There is nothing worse than setting your heart on a deal and missing out on it because your card is refused. In the same vein, if you are planning to shop on your phone, make sure you have sufficient data and/or you are in a good Wifi zone
- Go for it and Splash the cash – when your time comes for your Black Friday shopping dash, then shop, quickly and efficiently. But do pay attention to what you can realistically afford and don’t blow money that you don’t have. Shop responsibly
My top tip for a Black Friday super bargain
So here it is, my own top tip for the best bargain of Black Friday 2018, especially if you are a busy mum, with small children, pets or both.
You may have seen my post a couple of months ago when I reviewed the Robovac 11 and gave one away to a lucky reader. Many of my friends at that time said they were really envious of me for getting a free robot vacuum, and that they had always wanted one.
I must admit, I really wouldn’t be without mine now that Autumn has kicked in properly. My kids and my pets bring all sorts of mud and muck into the house regularly, and so I set the Robovac running every day while I’m working at my blog, and it always amazes me just how much stuff it picks up – every single day.
The makers of the Robovac, Eufy have two amazing deals on their Robovac range, which will be available for 24 hours only from midnight to midnight on Friday. I will give you links and a pin below so that you can add them to your Black Friday wishlist in whatever way appeals to you.
I reviewed the basic Robovac 11, which retails for £209.99, and I find that one is perfectly adequate for my needs
However there are two better Robovacs in the range, and both of them will be substantially cheaper than the basic model on Friday.
The mid-priced Robovac 11S is being reduced from £219.99 to £149.99, a saving of £70 or 32%
The top of the range Robovac 30C (which I covet!) will be reduced from £269.99 to £188.99, a saving of £81 or 30%
So here are the links for you to save, to access these deals on Black Friday. Disclosure, these are affiliate links, but I stand by my opinion that every household should have one of these…
And here is a sneaky pin for your strategy board, which will bring you back to this page on Friday… please share this one with all of your friends
