Are you a busy mum who has started a blog with big dreams of earning some extra cash while you juggle your home and family commitments? You’re in the right place. Let’s chat about affiliate marketing – a brilliant way to earn passive income from your blog with minimal investment and outlay.

Whether you’re brand new to blogging or have been at it for a while, affiliate marketing for beginners doesn’t have to be overwhelming. In fact, with the right approach and some UK-friendly affiliate programmes, you could be turning your blog into a money-making machine in no time.

What Is Affiliate Marketing?

In a nutshell, affiliate marketing is when you promote a product or service on your blog and earn a commission when someone clicks your link and makes a purchase. You don’t need to stock products, handle customer service, or do anything beyond writing honest, helpful content.

It’s like recommending your favourite pram to a friend—except now you can get paid when someone buys it based on your suggestion.

Why Affiliate Marketing Is Perfect for Mums

Here’s why affiliate marketing fits perfectly into mum life:

  • Flexible: You can write and post at times that work for you and do as much or as little as your family time allows
  • Scalable: Start small and grow over time—no pressure.
  • Passive: Once you’ve written a post, it can be seen by lots of people and youi can sell many times with little extra effort.
  • Authentic: You’re probably already sharing what you love with your mum friends – most of us do. Affiliate marketing just makes it profitable.

Getting Started: Affiliate Marketing for Beginners

Ready to dive in? Here’s what you’ll need:

1. A Blog or Website

This is your home base. If you don’t already have one, platforms like WordPress or Wix are great for setting up a simple, clean blog.

If you want to really pare affiliate marketing down to the basics without blogging, then a platform like Pensight can enable you to sell digital products without using a blog. The link I have used there will take you to my Pensight page where you can see digital products that I sell, many of them as an affiliate. You will also find a special offer where you can get the first 2 months of a Pensight pro subscription for free if you buy using my link.

2. A Niche

It’s not essential to have a niche, but it will help you to get more traffic to your website and to your offers, if you build up a reputation in a particular area. It also makes it easier to pick what products your audience would like if you have a defined idea of who they are

Think about what your audience comes to you for. Are you a parenting tips queen? A home organisation guru? A crafty mum who loves DIY? Stick to products that make sense for your niche.

As you may have figured, my niche is mums who are starting small businesses , and you will find affiliate links for products to suit those people liberally distributed throughout my site and on my Shop page

3. Join Affiliate Programmes

This is where you find brands to work with. Sometimes you will find a single brand and you can join their affiliate programme directly, and there are also affiliate aggregator sites (like Awin) where you can find a whole range of brand affiliate programmes.

Below, we’ve listed some of the best affiliate programmes for UK mums.

4. Create Content That Converts

If you want to persuade people to buy from you, you need to write compelling, honest, useful blog posts that help solve a problem or answer a question. Examples:

  • “10 Must-Have Baby Items Every New Mum Needs”
  • “How to Stay Organised with a Family Calendar”
  • “My Favourite Time-Saving Kitchen Gadgets”

Sprinkle in your affiliate links naturally, just like you would mention a product in a chat with a friend. If you can show or demonstrate the products that you are recommending that is more powerful than just words.

How to Write a Great Affiliate Blog Post

A good affiliate post doesn’t just slap on a bunch of links—it helps your readers make a decision. Here’s how to do it well:

1: Choose the Right Product

Pick products that:

  • Are relevant to your niche and audience
  • Solve a real problem or make life easier
  • Have good reviews and a solid reputation

Should you buy the product yourself? Yes, if possible. Personal experience always leads to better content. You can give honest opinions, share photos, and speak confidently. But if buying isn’t feasible, you can still create value through research, comparisons, and user testimonials.

2: Structure Your Post Like This:

  1. Catchy title with your target keyword
  2. Intro: Identify a problem your reader has
  3. Solution: Introduce the product you’re recommending
  4. Benefits: Explain why you love it and how it helped you
  5. How to use it (especially useful for mums)
  6. Call-to-Action: Encourage readers to click and try it

3: SEO Optimisation

Use keywords That your target market will be looking for (for example mine might include affiliate marketing for beginners, passive income blogging, and best affiliate programmes) in your title, meta description, headers, and body text. Make sure your content answers the exact questions your audience is Googling.

Examples of Affiliate-Friendly Post Titles:

  • “Why the XYZ Baby Monitor Changed My Life (and My Sleep!)”
  • “5 Kitchen Gadgets That Actually Save Me Time as a Mum”
  • “The Best Subscription Boxes for Busy Mums in the UK”

How to Promote Your Affiliate Posts So They Get Seen

Writing a great post is just the beginning—here’s how to make sure it doesn’t languish unseen in the depths of your site:

Pinterest

Create eye-catching pins and link back to your blog post. Pinterest is brilliant for mums looking for tips, hacks, and inspiration.

Social Media

Share snippets, reels, or stories on Instagram and Facebook. Add the post link in your bio or comments. Demonstrate your products and how to use them on YouTube or TikTok.

Email Newsletters

Have an email list? Send your readers your latest blog post and explain why it’s worth their time.

Other Questions New Bloggers Often Ask

🤔 Can I do affiliate marketing without a big audience?

Absolutely! A big audience will always be better but you canstill make money while you are building your audience. One of my affiliate products above from the Firefly range pays me $100 each time somebody buys, so I don’t need to sell too many of those to see a significant income. If your audience trusts you and values your recommendations, even a small list can convert.

🤔 Do I need to be a tech whiz?

Not at all. Most affiliate platforms are user-friendly, and you’ll pick it up as you go. Just focus on writing helpful content.

🤔 How long does it take to see results?

Affiliate income can take time. It’s a slow burn – when you start out, but one blog post could bring in income for years. Be consistent and keep showing up.

Final Thoughts

Affiliate marketing is a brilliant way for mums to earn passive income from blogging. With a little planning, some great content, and the right affiliate programmes, you can start turning your blog into a side hustle—or even a full-time income.

So why not give it a go? Start with one product you truly love and write about it. You might be surprised by the results.
