I’ve been given a copy of the Genius Connection puzzle game to give away to one lucky reader this month.
The Genius Connection can be played solo as a puzzle game, or it can be played head to head with two players competing against each other to solve the puzzle first. it is recommended for ages 8+, although I think my son could have got started with the simpler puzzles before this as he loved jigsaw type puzzles.

How to play
The puzzle is set up by throwing two 12-sided dice, whch indicate where the two starter markers are to be positioned on the game board. Then you have to position the puzzle pieces to form a continuous road between the start and the finish. Having tried a few myself, it’s harder than it looks! Here’s the solution to the puzzle above (I won’t tell you how long it took me…!).

For each combination of the dice there are 5 levels of difficulty of the puzzle. So if the two players are similar ages, they could compete to solve the same puzzle, or if they are substantially different in age, one could be set a slightly more complicated puzzle than the other.
I think this would have been fabulous for my son when he was a bit younger. He would probably have gone through all the puzzles one by one solving them all, and I’m sure he and his sister would have enjoyed the competitive element too.

The Happy Puzzle Company
The Happy Puzzle Company is a UK based company which has been selling educational toys, games and resources since 1992.
They have a huge range of beautiful and thought provoking games, puzzles and craft kits. They have word games, maths and shape games, card games, Escape room games and jigsaws, amongst othr things. There is something for kids of all ages (even my age!)
As a a family we have always loved playing games, ever since the youngest was able to throw a die, and we generally add at least one new game to the family collection each Christmas. Even though our children are young adults now, we can still meet round the table after a good meal and enjoy a good strategy game, which always leads to good conversation and lots of fun for all.
