It is a myth that tiles are only practical in the kitchen and bathroom, and in fact, tiles can be used all around the home, no matter what room they’re in. There is a lot more choice when it comes to both materials and designs, which allow tiles to be used in areas that they may not have been able to be a decade ago. They are actually becoming more and more popular, and can make a huge difference to your home.

One of the biggest advantages of having a tiled floor over a carpeted one is the allergens that become trapped in carpet fibres. If you have pets, it is possible for pet hairs along with dust mites to become trapped in the carpet, which no amount of sweeping, hoovering, and cleaning can get rid of.

This can make asthma sufferers worse, and affect allergy suffers. A tiled floor will not only smell better than a dirty carpet, but is much easier to remove any pet hairs and other particles.

Many people are put off tiles as they believe that it will make your home colder. Whilst it is true that certain tiles are much cooler to the touch than others, some actually do have a natural warmth to them, and there are very few tiles that cannot be laid on top of a heat mat, and this will provide you with the heat that you were worried about losing, as well as making the tile more comfortable underfoot. However, on the flip side of this, in the warmer months, your home will stay nice and cool, as the tiles will not retain heat. This is why you will rarely see carpets in warmer climates.

No matter how expensive or high quality your carpet is; overtime, it will still show signs of wear and tear, until eventually it needs replacing. Tiles are incredibly long lasting, and certain materials, such as Quartz show very little signs of wear. This means, that regardless of how long they are installed for, as long as they are maintained correctly, will still look as good as they did the day you purchased them.

If you have young children, it can be tempting to have carpet fitted over tiles for safety reasons; however, there are other advantages. Tiles are so easy to maintain and the majority of them require simply daily sweeping and cleaning to ensure that they look their best.

Although some tiles will require sealing to ensure they are resistant to water and stains, they are much easier to deal with should anything get spilled on them.  Carpets, and other flooring materials can be a nightmare due to the fact they stain very easily. As long as spills are cleared up immediately on tiles, it is very unlikely that it will leave a lasting mark.

Finally, there is so much choice when it comes to tiles. Whether you are looking for a matte, high shine, or patterned finish, you will find the perfect tile that suits your style. Tiles also come in a number of different effects, which means that you can achieve the look of a certain material, without the costs, or the disadvantages that come with it. They really open up the style choices, and mean that you can create your dream home, and allow you to create looks that other materials just couldn’t
