Nikura Essential Oils
Nikura is a UK-based company, that has been bottling and selling essential oils and fragrance oils since 2016. It now sells a great range of essential oils and blends plus fragrances that are ideal for perfume or soap-making, candles or wax melts.
NIkura sent me a selection of their essential oils to review, I received a 10ml bottle each of Lavender, Rosemary and Ylang-Ylang oils plus a bottle of Jojoba carrier oil.
The bottles are pretty standard – dark-coloured glass as the best essential oils should be, and the labelling is pastel shaded and minimalist – I love it. I’m pleased to see that the oils do come in a range of sizes, from 10ml to 5kg, as there are some oils that I use tons of almost every day, and others that I would only use very occasionally.
Delivery was extremely quick after I chose my review oils, and I have since also purchased a 12-bottle gift set (the box which is shown in the photos on this page) which also came extremely quickly.

Pricing and Quality
Looking at the website, the first thing that really struck me is that the prices are very reasonable. Some of my regular readers will know that between 2017 and 2020 I was a representative of one of the essential oils MLM companies (I won’t name then). At the time, I felt that the prices of the oils they were selling were reasonable, due to the quality and difficulty of sourcing these oils that they told us about in great detail. I didn’t know any better and now I do.
I’m very happy to buy from a UK-based company, as long as the products are good. I know that most of the oils can’t be extracted from plants in the UK, but having the management and the bottling plant here makes me feel like I am supporting the local economy.
I still have some oils from my previous company, including a couple of the same fragrances that I chose for this review, which are among my favourites. So of course I did a quick comparison. The oils smell different, but they probably come from flowers from different regions. Nikura themselves sell three different types of lavender oil, French lavender (which I tried), Bulgarian lavender, and Lavender 40/42 which is a blended oil from different strains.
The Nikura oils are very clearly recognisable as the plants they claim to be. The lavender oil in particular smells very much of lavender, and the scent lasts as long in my diffuser and on my lava rocks, as my previous brand of Lavender oil. The other two oils are very much the same, and the Jojoba oil feels soft and silky on my skin, and will be lovely to use with my large oil collection.

Uses of Essential oils
September is Back to School season in the UK, and all the children will be moving into new classrooms , and some to new schools, or in my son’s case, a new university. One of my favourite uses of essential oils is in immune support – there are many studies on PubMed that show that essential oils can have some effect in counteracting some of the normal cold weather bugs that kids find themselves with, and can also help with focus and mental clarity. So I will be sending my children off with home-made roll-on potions. They probably won’t use them or believe me, but I can only try.
Here are a couple of good uses of the three oils that I tried from Nikura, and the ones which I will be giving away:
Ylang Ylang essential oil:
- Ylang Ylang oil has a calming and relaxing scent that can help to reduce anxiety and promote feelings of peace and tranquility. I use it in my diffuser when I am meditating – see the Nikura blog
- Ylang Ylang oil has been shown to help lower blood pressure and heart rate. This makes it a good choice for people who are looking to reduce stress and improve their cardiovascular health.
- Ylang Ylang oil has a strong, sensual scent that can be stimulating and aphrodisiac. It is often used in massage oils and perfumes.
- Ylang Ylang oil has insect repellent properties that can help to keep mosquitoes and other insects away.
- Ylang Ylang oil can help to improve hair health by reducing dandruff, stimulating hair growth, and preventing hair loss. You can add a few drops of Ylang Ylang oil to your shampoo or conditioner, or you can apply it directly to your scalp.

Rosemary essential oil:
- Rosemary oil has been shown to improve memory and concentration in both humans and animals. It is thought to work by increasing blood flow to the brain. I will remind my young adults of this as they go off to uni – it can’t hurt to use rosemary oil and it may even help! See the Nikura blog on the best essential oils to boost memory.
- Rosemary oil has a calming and uplifting scent that can help to reduce stress and anxiety. It is often used in aromatherapy for this purpose.
- Rosemary oil has analgesic properties that can help to relieve muscle pain. It is often used to treat conditions such as arthritis, back pain, and headaches. You can apply rosemary oil directly to the affected area, or you can add a few drops to a warm bath.
- Rosemary oil has carminative properties that can help to relieve gas and bloating. It is also thought to stimulate the production of bile, which can help to improve digestion. Aromatherapists do not recommend taking essential oils orally but you can get the effect by inhaling the oil from a diffuser
- Boost the immune system. Rosemary oil has antibacterial and antiviral properties that can help to boost the immune system. It is often used to treat colds, flu, and other infections.

Lavender essential oil:
- Lavender oil is one of the most popular essential oils for relaxation and sleep. It has a calming and sedative effect that can help to reduce anxiety, stress, and insomnia.
- Lavender oil has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that can be beneficial for the skin. It can help to reduce acne, eczema, and psoriasis. You can add a few drops of lavender oil to your moisturizer or face wash, or you can apply it directly to the affected area.
- Lavender oil has a fresh, clean scent that can help to freshen up your home. You can add a few drops of lavender oil to a diffuser or add it to a spray bottle of water and use it to mist your home. I also use it in my home made kitchen cleaning products
- Lavender oil can be used to deter spiders – see the Nikura blog
- Lavender oil is a popular gift for friends and family. It is a thoughtful and affordable gift that can be used for a variety of purposes. You can give lavender oil in a diffuser, a roller bottle, or a spray bottle.
It is important to note that all concentrated essential oils should be used with caution. It is always best to dilute them with a carrier oil before applying to your skin. You should also avoid using most oils if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
My carrier oil of choice – Jojoba oil
NIkura sells a range of carrier oils for every purpose. I chose Jojoba oil for this review for these reasons:
- Jojoba oil is non-comedogenic: This means that it will not clog your pores, making it a good choice for people with oily or acne-prone skin.
- It is hypoallergenic – unlikely to cause an allergic reaction, making it a good choice for people with sensitive skin.
- Jojoba oil is a light oil that absorbs quickly into the skin, making it a good choice for people like mewho do not like the feeling of heavy oils on their skin.
- Jojoba oil has a long shelf life, making it a good choice for essential oil blends that you plan to use over time.
- Jojoba oil has moisturising properties that can help to keep the skin hydrated.
- Jojoba oil contains antioxidants that can help to protect the skin from damage.
