Top apps for bloggers – I’ve tried a few in my time! I’ve been blogging for just over 14 years now, and I freely admit I’m a bit of a nerd, and I love a bit of shiny object syndrome. I’m always on the lookout for that perfect app that will suddenly make everything so much easier (spoiler alert, the perfect app does not exist and the next big thing is always better…)
Over the years I have tried all sorts of apps, from the market-leading and well-known top apps for bloggers to the new, experimental and interesting ones that you find on launch sites like AppSumo. Some of them have stuck and others I tried but eventually moved on.

The need for structure
When you first start blogging, the workload and flow can all be a little bit overwhelming; pick a niche, make a plan, do lots of research, write great content, add keywords, add links out of and into your blog post, add fabulous images, including template Instagram posts and pinnable images, choose hashtags…
Then you start with the social media promotion and email marketing….and once that is done, you analyse the views, see whether the readers liked it, and then start again on the next post. It’s never-ending, and you can start to wonder whether it was such a good idea to give up the 9 to 5 for something that is so much work for so little reward (at first).
But here’s the good news: there are some brilliant tools and apps out there that can make your life so much easier. These are the top apps for bloggers that I’ve found incredibly helpful over the years, and I’m sharing them all with you in the hope they’ll save you time, sanity, and maybe even a bit of your patience.
There’s no one size fits all when it comes to productivity systems – you have to try a few things until you find what works best for you. In some cases, blogging friends of mine have recommended a particular software which they swear by, and I have hated it – this is why I’m recommending more than one solution in most of the productivity areas I’m going to cover.
Whether you’re just starting out or you’re a seasoned pro, there’s something here for everyone.
My Top Apps for Bloggers
1. Task Management: Trello or Asana
Keeping track of all your blogging projects, ideas, and deadlines can get overwhelming. That’s where task management tools like Trello and Asana come in.
Trello is my personal favourite because it’s super visual – like sticky notes on a wall. I use it to plan my content calendar, brainstorm blog topics, and track my to-do list. You can set up boards for each part of your blogging life—content, social media, collaborations—and move tasks around easily.
If you prefer a more structured approach, Asana is great for setting deadlines and breaking down bigger tasks into smaller steps. It’s perfect if you’re managing a team or just need a bit more detail.

2. Writing Assistant: Grammarly and Hemingway App
Writing is at the heart of blogging, so it helps to have a tool that checks your spelling and grammar. Grammarly is brilliant for spotting typos and checking your tone — it’s like having your own editor on hand. I do find it a bit American in style and sometimes I disagree profoundly with its findings, but that still means that I have checked my spelling and grammar, and i am comfortable with the way that I sometimes choose to word things. I do have terrible difficulty typing so I need something to pick up on my numerous typos.
For those times when you’re polishing your blog posts, the Hemingway App is fab for checking readability. It highlights sentences that are too long or overly complicated, helping you keep your writing clear and easy to read.

3. Graphic Design: Canva and Adobe Express
Visuals are so important for your blog and social media, and let’s be honest, not all of us are graphic designers. Thankfully, Canva makes it easy to create stunning graphics, whether it’s Pinterest pins, Instagram posts, or banners for your website. This is one tool which I cannot recommend enough. You can buy templates to get you started with most of the graphics you are going to need as a blogger – here’s a great pack of Canva templates for example – which you can adapt to your brand colours and fonts and make your own
If you have some money to invest in your blog I would recommend the Pro version, once you have mastered the basics of the free version. The abilty to design one graphic and then resize it to the ideal size for your blog’s featured image, and then turn it into an Instagram story, a Facebook post and a perfectly proportioned Pinterest pin is just so handy.
If you fancy trying something a bit different, Adobe Express is another great option. It’s similar to Canva but has a few extra features for creating unique designs.

4. Social Media Scheduling: Buffer, SocialBee and Tailwind
Managing social media can be a massive time drain, so scheduling tools are an absolute lifesaver. Buffer is a great all-rounder for scheduling posts across platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
I very much like SocialBee for scheduling, especially as it is possible to send each or your posts round x number of times (you decide how many), so that you can create a rolling canvas of your evergreen content, which continues to run even on days when you don’t create new stuff. Social Bee also has a way to schedule your content to Facebook Groups and to new platforms such as Threads or Bluesky. It’s not totally automated, but it’s better than nothing.
If you’re focusing on Pinterest, you absolutely need Tailwind. It helps you schedule pins, find group boards, and even suggest the best times to post for maximum reach. Tailwind works with Instagram too.
5. Note-Taking: Evernote and Notion
As a blogger, inspiration can strike at any moment, and you need somewhere to jot it all down. Evernote is a classic—it syncs across your devices and lets you save notes, links, and ideas all in one place.
If you like a bit more structure, give Notion a try. It’s like a super-powered notebook where you can create pages, templates, and even databases to track your content ideas.
On my iPad I love GoodNotes. I can scribble notes with my Apple Pencil and make flow diagrams and images to go with my ideas.

6. SEO Tools: Yoast SEO and Rank Math
If you’re on WordPress, you’ll want an SEO plugin to help your posts rank better in search engines. Yoast SEO is the go-to option for many bloggers—it’s user-friendly and gives you suggestions for improving your post’s SEO and readability.
Another great choice is Rank Math, which is slightly more advanced but offers extra features for free, like keyword tracking and schema markup.

7. Content Curating: Pocket
Ever found a brilliant article or recipe but didn’t have time to read it? That’s where Pocket comes in. You can save links to read later, and the best part? You can access them offline. It’s perfect for research or curating content for social media.
8. Email Marketing: ConvertKit and MailerLite
Building an email list is one of the best things you can do as a blogger, and tools like ConvertKit make it easy. It’s perfect for creating opt-in forms and email sequences to stay connected with your audience.
If you’re just starting out, MailerLite is a more affordable option but still packs a punch with great features like drag-and-drop email design and landing pages. The sign up forms in this blog are powered by Mailerlite and will allow you to access some amazing free products if you join my mailing list.
9. Website Analytics: Google Analytics
Knowing what’s working on your blog (and what’s not) is key to growing your traffic. Google Analytics is free and gives you detailed insights into where your readers are coming from, how long they’re staying, and which posts are performing best. It may look a bit complicated at first , but it’s worth getting to know what the figures mean, so you can understand what’s driving your progress.
10. Automation: Zapier
If you’re looking to save time on repetitive tasks, Zapier is a game-changer. It connects different apps and automates tasks, like sharing new blog posts to your social media or adding email subscribers to your list. It’s like having your own personal assistant!
11. Productivity: Google Workspace
I use Google Workspace for everything—writing drafts in Google Docs, storing images and files in Google Drive, and organising my schedule in Google Calendar. It’s free (or affordable if you upgrade) and super reliable.

12. Collaboration: Slack
If you’re working with a VA, editor, guest bloggers or other collaborators, Slack is a fantastic team communication tool. It keeps everything organised in one place, so you’re not constantly searching through email chains.
13. Password Management: LastPass
Blogging means logging into a million different platforms, and keeping track of all your passwords can be a nightmare. LastPass securely stores your passwords and autofills them on all of your devices when you need them. It also has a family option so you can share it with your other half and your kids.
One note of caution. Set a strong master password, but be careful that you remember it. If you lose it, everything is gone forever.
14. File Organisation: Dropbox
If your computer is groaning under the weight of blog photos and documents, Dropbox is a lifesaver. Store files in the cloud and access them from anywhere—perfect for backing up those precious blog assets.
15. Inspiration: Pinterest
Finally, if you’re ever feeling stuck for ideas, hop onto Pinterest as a user. It’s a goldmine of inspiration for blog posts, recipes, DIY projects, and more. Plus, it’s not just a social platform—it can be a fantastic traffic driver if you use it well.
